Volunteers will be working in our Kitchen/Dining Room helping to serve over 300 meals daily to members of the community who are facing food insecurities. Volunteers will help prep items for upcoming meals, assist with food deliveries, prepare our bag lunches, and help serve our hot lunch to our guests. We ask that all volunteers where comfortable closed toe shoes, pants or shorts that come to the knee, t-shirts with sleeves long or short and no large jewelry. For this shift we have 15 slots available and a minimum volunteer age with a parent of 13 and without 16+.

In this Year of The Lunar Horse , we’ve rapidly transformed Little Saigon’s East 12th Street into a vibrant corridor rooted in high-end art, murals and beauty. Led in partnership with 333 Arts, DC16 International Painters Union, Public Works, Artists Hyde, DJ Agana, Vogue, Patrick Piccolo, Thi, LukeDragon, SevenSeas, D2 Council Member Charlene Wang, East 12th St Reimagined Coalition, The City Administrator’s Office, this is undoubtedly becoming THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STREET IN THE TOWN  .

 

We need the community’s help in putting on critical finishing touches: weeding and greening the street’s median with native plants, a pollinator garden, tree canopy; beautifying buildings; and removing residual illegal dumping from city streets. With your help, we’re changing East 12th into a welcoming, greener, healthier, and SAFER place for all Oaklanders.

Earth Day with the Oakland Zoo! 

Come volunteer at Oakland Zoo's Arroyo Viejo Creek this Earth Day! Volunteers work on a variety of tasks and all projects are 100% outdoors!

This Earth Day on April 22, 2026, YOU (ages 12 and up) can join us as a volunteer and work on a variety of outdoor tasks that may include picking up garbage, pulling invasive species, spreading mulch, moving materials, cleaning signage, or planting native plants. Volunteers will receive FREE parking and Zoo admission after their shift.

Please note that all minors MUST be accompanied by an adult.

The Arroyo Viejo Creek runs through the Oakland Zoo grounds, secretly flowing under the entrance road to the Park. The Arroyo Viejo Creek Restoration Project began with a mission to repair damaged and neglected stream areas by preventing bank erosion, increasing stability, and improving habitat for creek wildlife.

Freedom Run - 5K and Festival

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Black Panther Party, on the 100th year anniversary Black History Month, February 28th 2026.

Join us on a symbolic run to represent the ongoing journey towards freedom, justice, and health equity.

Participate and nourish in a free community wellness festival, supported by local healthcare providers, mental health services, and community organizations.

Educate to Liberate. Each One, Teach One. All Power to the People.

Job: Come help us volunteer for registration, course help, and support at the festival.

Oakland Estuary Volunteer Beautification Day at Union Point Park
Oakland's "Paint, Plant & Pickup With Your Pups" event on a day of community beautification projects!

Join your neighbors to give back, meet fellow community members, and celebrate Dr. King’s vision of love and action. 

Led in partnership with The Oakland Ballers, California Climate Action Corps and Oakland Public Works, we're showing how much we #LOVEOAK together as one BIG Oakland family!

What:     Keep Oakland Beautiful Shoreline and Park Beautification Event
When:    Monday, January 19th, 2026 at 9:00AM
Where:    2311 Embarcadero - Union Point Park at The Oakland Estuary

Bring your pups (on leash!) Activities include mulching, composting, litter pick up, graffiti abatement, recycling education/games, free prize giveaways in support of Oakland local businesses. Coffee, drinks, breakfast snacks, and a light lunch will be served.

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. During the last quarter-century, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact increased as more Americans embraced the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving communities.

 Check-in begins at 8:30AM at the Keep Oakland Beautiful tent.
 Oakland's Adopt-A-Spot program will provide mulch, compost, cleaning and painting supplies, feel free to bring your own gloves.
 Groups are welcome but everyone must register.
 Water station will be available, please bring your own water bottle to reduce waste.

Please join us at the Alameda County Community Food Bank! Volunteers in ACCFB's Oakland warehouse are essential to the daily impact that the Alameda County Community Food Bank makes. Projects in the warehouse include sorting fresh produce and preparing emergency food boxes.

For nearly 40 years, the Alameda County Community Food Bank has stood by the unwavering belief that food is a basic human right. ACCFB distributes millions of healthy meals every year, and is on the forefront of new approaches to ending hunger and poverty.

Community Kitchens (CK) brings restaurants, community organizations and volunteers together to help feed those in need in Oakland. Founded in 2020, CK provides over 10,000 meals per month through the CK Mobile Oasis outreach bus, town fridges, and community partners. In the Oakland neighborhoods CK serves, over half the people are going to bed hungry at night. CK's mission is to build sustainable, equitable and community-centric foodways driven by the voice of the people to support the underserved in our community. Join us for an afternoon in the CK Kitchen with Chef Kendall to help with food prep, sandwich making and meal packaging. Meals prepared will be delivered in the CK Mobile Oasis outreach bus to Oakland encampments and youth programs. Space is limited. Age 10+.

Remodeling Schoolyards in Oakland.

As part of our vision to transform the school experience for a generation of Oakland students, Eat. Learn. Play. has been working to ensure all Oakland elementary and middle school students have access to the resources, support, and spaces for kids to thrive and have great childhoods.

Our work includes remodeling more than 25 public elementary schoolyards throughout Oakland by the end of 2026 to be the dream places for kids to play, learn, and spend time with their classmates.

We only have room for 7 Ballunteers on these days and they are full day events. 1st come, first served.

PEDAL POWER WITH COMMUNITY KITCHENS!

Community Kitchens is organizing an event to feed the Town with pedal power! This Sunday, November 2nd, join a team of bicyclists to bring hot, nutritious meals to local encampments and anyone else struggling to get enough to eat. Volunteers will meet up at the CK Kitchen to load up on fresh-cooked meals, water and supplies before taking to the streets of West Oakland and distributing these necessities to the community.
