MODESTO, CA – Tremayne Cobb's three extra base hits helped the Oakland Ballers snap a four-game losing streak in an 8-4 victory over the Modesto Roadsters on Fourth of July Saturday from Modern Woodmen Field.
Cobb started the fireworks early with a 418-foot solo homer just two pitches into the game against Modesto starting right-hander Jonah Jenkins.
After Modesto (25-16) scored three runs in the second and third innings, Oakland (17-24) tied the score at three on an RBI single from Paul Winland and an RBI double from Noah Blythe in the fourth.
The Roadsters retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI single from Tyler Williams but Winland responded in the fifth with a two-out RBI single to even the score at four.
Ballers starting left-hander CJ Blowers pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks with four strikeouts in a no decision. Oakland has now won in each of his last five starts dating back to June 10 at Missoula.
With the game tied at four, Myles Beale led off the eighth with a single for his first hit as a Baller in his debut after Oakland traded for him from the Schaumburg Boomers on Friday. Cobb then blasted a two-out RBI double off Preston Kelly (L, 0-1) to the center field wall to break the tie and give Oakland a 5-4 lead.
In the ninth, the Ballers shortstop struck again with two outs. After Blythe singled and Beale was hit-by-a-pitch, Cobb doubled both runners in to give the Ballers their biggest lead of the game.
Valek Cisneros (W, 4-0) threw 2.2 shutout innings of relief with three strikeouts and Langston Burkett struck out a pair in a scoreless ninth to seal Oakland's first win of July.
Oakland remains undefeated on the Fourth of July in the team's history.
The Ballers conclude their three-game road series against the Modesto Roadsters with a rubber match on Sunday, July 5. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m from Modern Woodmen Field. Fans can tune in beginning at 10:45 a.m on the Oakland Ballers YouTube Channel and HomeTeam Network.
